Funded Early Education and Childcare — What You Need to Know
At Wyndham Park Nursery School, we believe every child deserves the best start in life. We are a maintained nursery school, and this means we follow national guidance and do not profit from childcare.
⭐ Important: No Additional Costs
All funded places at Wyndham Park Nursery School are completely free.
There are:
- No top-up fees
- No compulsory charges
- No hidden or administrative costs
If your child attends on funded hours, those hours are fully funded — there is nothing extra to pay.
Families may choose optional paid extras such as additional sessions, breakfast club or after school wraparound care, but these are entirely optional. We do have a small voluntary contribution towards the cost of snack and enhancements but this is entirely at your discretion and is very reasonable.
🧒 Admission Age
Although government funding may apply from 9 months old, Wyndham Park Nursery School admits children from their second birthday.
🕒 How Funded Hours Work
Depending on eligibility, your child may receive:
|
Child’s Age |
Universal Entitlement |
Working Parent Entitlement |
|
From 2 years old |
Some children may be eligible for 15 hours funded childcare |
Working parents may be eligible for up to 30 hours |
|
3 and 4 year olds |
All children receive 15 hours funded childcare |
Working parents may be eligible for up to 30 hours |
Funding starts from the term after your child becomes eligible, not immediately.
⚠️ Important: When Funding Can Start
Funding does NOT start as soon as you get a code.
Even if you apply early and receive a code, it can only be used from the start of the next school term.
The dates are set nationally and are the same everywhere in England:
|
If you apply and receive your code before: |
Funding starts from: |
|
31 August |
Autumn Term starts in September |
|
31 December |
Spring Term starts in January |
|
31 March |
Summer Term starts in April |
Example
- A parent applies in September and is issued a childcare code.
- Because the deadline for the autumn term was 31 August, the code is not valid until January, at the start of the spring term.
This rule is set by the government — not the school — which is why many families notice a delay between receiving a code and being able to use it.
We know this can feel confusing and frustrating, so we encourage families to apply before the cut-off dates where possible.
How to Apply
You can apply online through the government’s childcare portal. Free Childcare for Working Parents: Apply for free childcare - GOV.UK
You will need:
- National Insurance number
- Your child’s date of birth

Once you receive your code, please share it with us so we can plan ahead.
You must reconfirm your eligibility every three months.
